Faced with precarious access to electricity, one historic village in Lebanon harnesses the power of solar energy in a nation that receives abundant sunlight. Through the lens of an opera singer, a tailor and an environmental activist, we witness how community members seize this opportunity to become independent from private generators, instead installing new and innovative technologies that sustain both everyday life and the planet.
Director/Producer Jude Chehab is a Lebanese American filmmaker based between New York and Beirut. Her cinematic interests have drawn Jude to the exploration of the esoteric, the spiritual and the unspoken. A richly layered visual and intimate personal shooting style developed under the mentorship of Abbas Kiarostami’s final student group; Jude has been credited in collaborations with the BBC, Refinery29, Oxfam GB, and Doctors Without Borders. She has worked as a DP internationally, on films in Somalia, Sudan and Pakistan and was an AP on Sesame Street’s Ahlan Simsim. Her work has been awarded fellowships through: CAAM, NeXtDoc, Points North Institute, Firelight Media, Close-Up and Chicken and Egg. Jude is currently in post-production on her first feature documentary and has been supported by: IDA, ITVS, TFI, and Sundance. In 2021, Filmmaker Magazine named her one of the 25 New Faces of Independent Film.
Editor Fahd Ahmed is a British Pakistani editor and the founder and creative director of Studio Amorem, a studio in East London focusing mainly on corporate and commercial work. He is a producer on the leading Arab Ramadan show, Kannak Tarah with Amr Khaled that shoots in Spain and Greece. He was an editing fellow in the Gotham Edit Lab and the Sundance Edit and Story Lab. He has edited for the BBC and is currently editing feature-length documentary, Q, supported by Sundance, IDA and Firelight Media. He is a story editor on the PBS-funded 3-part docuseries, A Town Called Victoria.
Director of Photography Rachid Asmar is a Lebanese cinematographer who was born in 1989. He graduated from the Antonine University with a degree in audio-visual. Since 2016, he has been expressing his passion in filmmaking, through the series and short movies he filmed.
